Electoral Reform! The next big issue for the Green Party. Who do you want deciding who the President is in four years, the people, or relics of a system that was designed to benefit the political clout of slaveholding states?

About the Green Party

Green Party values are MAINSTREAM values, dedicated to improving life for families. Here you may read the Ten Key Values of the Green Party. We are affiliated with the Santa Barbara Green Party.

Green Partys are gaining increasing support worldwide, for the simple reason that they protect people, not corporations. As our second president, John Adams, stated, "The happiness of society is the end of government."

Green Partys exist in 80 countries worldwide now and in those countries with proportional representation, often share in government in some way. For example the German Greens have had seats in the Bundestag for several years and played a major role in the succesful coalition which won the last national elections and resulted in the downfall of the conservative government. Joscha Fischer, who is a Green, is now the Foreign Minister of Germany. A most recent example is in Mexico where Greens won several seats in both houses.

The Green Party of California (GPCA) has had ballot status since 1992 and even though the system is tilted against third partys, has maintained its status and grown.

Two years ago GPCA voted to affiliate with the Association of State Green Parties (ASGP). The ASGP is organized as a federation with two representatives from each state party who decide to affiliate and who meet ASGP's credentialing criteria. A steering commitee is elected from those representatives. Since the election, forty states have establshed Green Partys. The ASGP is an interim step toward the creation of a United States Green Party which we feel will develop within the next year or so following a series of upcoming meetings. The ASGP is scheduled to meet in Georgia the second weekend of December. Further the ASGP has affiliations with most international Green Party organizations including the European Federation of Green Partys, the Green Partys of the Americas and the Green Partys of Africa.

Green Party organizations extend beyond the state level by virtue of their relationships with other state, national and international Green Party Organizations. The connection is truly exciting when one realizes its Global democratic potential.
